Member Spotlight – Theophilus Elamah

Our member spotlight this week features Mr. Theophilus Elamah. Theophilus is a broadcast journalist and an aspiring PR practitioner. His job comes with a measure of risk as well as adventure as you would see when you go along reading this interview. Enjoy this conversation we had with him. 😉

aha! Trybe: How long have you been a member of aha! Trybe?

Theophilus: I’ve been a member for about three months or so and it’s been a rewarding experience.

aha! Trybe: Why did you join the Trybe?

Theophilus: I joined because of my mum’s health. She has arthritis and we have been spending a fortune on drugs and treatment for some years now. So when I saw the advert on Instagram, I made inquires and decided that it was best for her cos her health was asking a toll on us, not just financially, but otherwise.

aha! Trybe: How would you describe your experience with us so far?

Theophilus: So far,the experience has been awesome. She doesn’t have to go to the hospital, just a phone call to the doctor and it’s sorted. Plus we don’t have to pay from our pockets to access healthcare for her.

aha! Trybe: What do you like most about the trybe?

Theophilus: It’s a fun place to be. Though I hardly contribute on the forum but I see the conversations going on and it’s great.

aha! Trybe: What did you want to become when you were a child?

Theophilus: I actually wanted to become a doctor. I had imagined myself being a doctor but alas, God had other plans for me. 😊

aha! Trybe: What is your current occupation?

Theophilus: I’m a broadcast journalist and an aspiring PR practitioner.

aha! Trybe: What do you love most about your job?

Theophilus: I love the fact that I can tell stories with visuals that I gather. I love the fact that we have the opportunity to mold mindsets by giving accurate information that comes from proper research.

aha! Trybe: Can you tell us 3 most important rules you live by?

Theophilus: 1- Always rest while you can cos life isn’t that hard.

2- Work as though you have no one to help you and always pray cos your life depends on it.

3- Always have a positive mindset despite the odds.

aha! Trybe: Does success for you depend on having a university degree?

Theophilus: No, it doesn’t. Success depends on your view of life, relationships and how you live life. It will interest you to know that I’ve never worked with my certificate. Every job I’ve gotten has been on referral basis – even my first job.

aha! Trybe: What is your idea of good music?

Theophilus: Good music is one that speaks to you, passes a positive message and has good beats to it.

aha! Trybe: What’s the most adventurous thing you’ve done?

Theophilus: One of the most adventurous things I’ve done is being in a shootout with my cameraman while filming a raid in one of these shopping malls when Nigerians were being attacked in South Africa due to xenophobia. I was in Lagos and covering the situation when a raid happened and police and some hoodlums, who were retaliating the injustice meted on Nigerians in S.A. A shootout happened and we had to get the visuals. That’s how we jumped In. That’s something I will never do again cos it was scary at the same time. I had a sense of achievement.

aha! Trybe: Do you feel like there are double standards when it comes to rules for men and women?

Theophilus: It’s a thing of the mind. Really!!! They say men rule the world but, over the years, we have seen women do things that men have not done. And these men are lending support to women.

In my view, there are double standards on both genders. We just have to find a rallying point to achieving things together.

aha! Trybe: What advice would you like to share with members of the community?
