Member Spotlight – Deborah Ibukun

Our member spotlight this week features Ms. Deborah Ibukun. Deborah is a swimming coach and a bartender at the NAFRC (Nigeria Armed Forces Resettlement Centre) Officers’ Nest.
Enjoy this conversation we had with her. 😊

aha! Trybe: How long have you been a member of aha! Trybe?

Deborah: I’ve been a member of the Trybe for about 6 months.

aha! Trybe: Why did you join the Trybe?

Deborah: I especially joined because of the health benefits. I like that I can get free medications whenever I need them and only have to pay a small delivery fee. I also joined to take advantage of the wealth benefits.

aha! Trybe: How would you describe your experience with us so far?

Deborah: I would say my experience has been fun and motivating. I have learnt a lot since I joined aha! Trybe.

aha! Trybe: What do you like most about the trybe?

Deborah: The Friday headlines is it for me! I am not so up-to-date with trends on social media so I always appreciate the updates on what is happening. I also love and really enjoy the games.

aha! Trybe: What did you want to become when you were a child?

Deborah: I just wanted to be a great person 😁. Actually, a lawyer. To fight the injustice in our society.

aha! Trybe: What is your current occupation?

Deborah: I’m a swimming coach and a bartender. I work at the NAFRC (Nigeria Armed Forces Resettlement Centre) Officers’ Nest.

aha! Trybe: What do you love most about your job?

Deborah: As a swimming coach, I love the way I teach my students and they understand me and catch up fast. As a bartender, I love meeting new people everyday. I meet people from the military and a lot of politicians as well as high-ranking civilians. I also how everyone here is treated as members of one family.

aha! Trybe: Can you tell us 3 most important rules you live by?

Deborah: 1. Put God first in all things you do. 2. Never look down on anyone. 3. Do what makes you happy.

aha! Trybe: Does success to you depend on if you have a university degree?

Deborah: No. Success depends on you and your mindset. If you are determined, focused, prayerful, and hardworking; you will definitely be successful, no matter what.

aha! Trybe: What is your idea of a good music?

Deborah: I don’t really know much about music but I enjoy good beats and rhythm.

aha! Trybe: What’s the most adventurous thing you’ve done?

Deborah: Having a baby.

aha! Trybe: Do you feel like there are double standards when it comes to rules for men and women?

Deborah: Yes! There are double standards. There is no gender equality. We especially see this in the corporate world and even in the court of law. Women often get shorter sentences compared to men who committed the same criminal offence.

aha! Trybe: What advice would you like to share with members of the community?

Deborah: I would say we should all take aha! Trybe to heart and tell more people about the trybe (more publicity).

aha! Trybe: Do you have a business you would like us to patronise?

Deborah: I’m a swimming coach. So you can recommend me. You can reach me on 08132910492.

aha! Trybe: Anything else you would like to share with us?

Deborah: Thank you so much for all you are doing. I really appreciate this opportunity to share and I will be looking forward to this week’s headlines and more games.
